The BUTE and the SOTE (Semmelweis Medical University) after a successful accreditation process has started a new course in rehabilitation engineering in September 2001.
The course that is the 3rd one in Europe (following the
Dalarna University in Sweden and the King's College in London) is opened for engineers and medical doctors. The knowledge about rehabilitation, disabilities, available therapies, assistive devices and accessible environment is tought by professionals from several medical and rehabilitation units, engineers and architects having real experiences.

This is a 2 years course with 120h/period.

Visits to service units is integrated in the course providing opportunity to informal talks with professionals and disabled persons.

 ACCESSIBILITY

The foundation works on accessibility of the built environment including urban areas, public transport. With the help of experts the following services are provided:

action plans for accessible adaptations on a building, access audits

consultancy in the design process - determining neccessary special installations

survey

survey of private settings and public buildings

tervezés

accessible designing including details (finishes, equipments, switches, colours, mounting ...)

education

short courses and presentations about the following topics:
principles of accessible design, accessibility surveys, assistive devices
